Newcastle's Christ Church Camerata
Christ Church Camerata was founded in 2009 by David Banney, Peta Dries, Helentherese Good and Peter Guy. These founders possessed a vision to present exceptional performances to the people of Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. The Camerata has quickly developed an enviable reptutation as Newcastle's finest orchestral ensemble.
The Camerata made its home at Newcastle's iconic Christ Church Cathedral, from where it takes its name, presenting an annual subscription concert series covering a variety of string orchestra repertoire. Comprising some of Newcastle's finest ensemble musicians, the Camerata has also presented numerous chamber music series at the Newcastle Art Gallery. While showcasing the best of Newcastle's local music talent, the Camerata welcomes international guests, having performed under the baton of our Patron, Géza Szilvay, and in performance with Roger Woodward. Members of the Camerata have also performed with flautist Sally Walker in a broadcast for ABC Classic FM's Sunday Live programme.
The Camerata produced its premiere CD recording in 2012, Serenade for Strings. Featuring works by Elgar, Finzi, Giazotto/Albinoni and conductor, David Banney, the recording showcases local soloists Christopher Allan (baritone), Perry Fuller (didgeridoo), Peta Dries (violin) and Peter Guy (organ). Selections from the disc have been broadcast on ABC Classic FM on the Afternoon Drive and Weekend Breakfast programmes.
